How does value alter perspective? Value is the lightness and darkness used in a painting or picture and can be greatly helpful when it comes to painting if you understand how it can influence your painting. Value can be used to create certain focus points in your work, drawing in the viewers attention and interest. By making the background dark it makes the subject stand out while also setting a certain mood to the image. Value can also affect the depth and perceptive of an image making them more realistic. Changing your paintings value is a great tool to use and can make your image tell more of a story and bring in harsh and soft characteristics.
